Joint Forces Training Command Success Story

The U.S. Joint Forces Command has the critical responsibility of training Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard military forces for fighting battles as a joint team. These united task forces consist of teams of soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who are organized to accomplish a specific task. Extensive military training is needed for these joint task forces to coordinate the air, ground, sea and space-based assets. Instructions for using these forces include coordinating which forces are deployed to support a mission, how they are transported, supplied and how they will fight.

The Joint Warfighting Center (JWC) in Suffolk, Virginia manages the programs that train combat personnel and organizations from all of the armed services for joint operations and to engage in combat as a team. The JWC also provides advanced technology training opportunities in joint military operations to diverse training audiences throughout the world.

Each region of the globe has an associated commander called a “combatant commander.” Regional combatant commanders, service members and multinational partners participate in special training events to increase their knowledge of joint and coalition operations. The JWC ensures that U.S.-based forces are prepared for multi-service and multi-national operations.

To accomplish this, the JWC uses audio and video conferencing products offered by San Francisco-based Video Communications, Inc. to support these joint multinational training events, which include command and control, and mission collaboration. Video Communications, a certified distributor for Polycom multipoint and gateway conferencing platform, provides high quality and reliable virtual communications solutions that are easy to deploy, manage and use.

“We use Video Communications’ equipment to facilitate mission-critical meetings, collaboration and information sharing among Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps as well as coalition with our allies,” said Cyrus Brooks, a government video systems engineer who supports Joint Forces Command. “They enable us to provide high-quality, real time communications to accomplish mission goals and objectives.”

Joint Forces Command selected Video Communications, Inc. because of the company’s reliable solutions and, more importantly, their customer service support and rapid response to their needs. “We started working with Louis Guyot (President of Video Communications) four years ago and have continued to be satisfied and impressed by their superior customer service,” said Mr. Brooks. “Louis spends time providing rapid response to our requests for information even when it doesn’t directly result in a sale.”

Each training session is uniquely tailored and often deployed overseas. The multi-media conferencing platform provides multi-network support for switched, dedicated and packet networks. The flexible options allow conferencing services to be delivered over any network connection including foreign telephone systems and electrical requirements. The end user is shielded from the complexity of the call set-up and the thousands of different permutations for frame rates, algorithms and data rates. This unique approach allows participants to easily connect into the same conference using any mix of ISDN video, IP video, PSTN audio and VolP endpoints.
